Decans
Virgo Decans: Which Virgo Are You?
Every Virgo improves things; the decan decides what. Fast fixes at 0 to 9 degrees, whole systems at 10 to 19, and slow, patient craft from 20 to 29.

You told your friend you'd just glance at the new website she built for her candle shop. An hour later you've fixed a broken checkout link, rewritten the FAQ so it doesn't sound like a terms-of-service agreement, and sent a gentle note suggesting she swap that serif font for something with rounder edges. She thanks you profusely. You already knew it needed all three things before you finished the first sentence of her request.
What you fixed first, what you fixed second, and what you almost didn't bother mentioning: the order lives in the little number sitting right next to your Sun in any chart app. If your Virgo Sun is at 4 degrees, you probably killed that broken link before you noticed the font. At 15 degrees, you probably asked who owns the workflow that built the site. At 25 degrees, you probably sat with the whole thing a while, felt which parts had good bones, and only then suggested the font change.
Same sign. Same eye. Different target, different pace. That's what a decan does.
Finding your degree (and why 19°59' matters more than your birthday)
Every zodiac sign covers 30 degrees, and your placement gets a position from 0 to 29 inside it. The three decans slice those 30 degrees into ten-degree blocks: 0 to 9, 10 to 19, 20 to 29. You open any chart app, find your Sun in the table or next to the wheel, and read the degree. That number is your decan. No guessing, no choosing whichever paragraph sounds like you. The degree decides.
The line between the last two decans is sharp. 19°59' is still second decan. 20°00' is already third. A birthday right on a decan boundary is the exception: the Sun moves roughly a degree a day, so the date usually settles it, but a boundary-day Sun can tip either way. As a very rough orientation, the first ten days of Virgo season track the first decan, the middle ten the second, the last ten the third. Because Virgo season begins on a slightly different day from year to year, treat those thirds as a rough guide and let the degree decide.
If your rising sign is also Virgo, you're in luck and in a slight bind. Virgo rising at 5 degrees meets people with quick, helpful precision. At 15, with composed, businesslike calm. At 25, with unhurried, grounded warmth. The rising degree slides into the next decan in about forty minutes on average, and the Moon crosses a decan in less than a day, so both of those placements need an accurate birth time to pin down.
Why the accents come from Capricorn and Taurus
Virgo is mutable earth: built for noticing, sorting, and making things work better. All three of its decans stay in the earth element. The first is Virgo with no extra flavor, the sign in its purest form. The second borrows from Capricorn, cardinal earth, which adds initiative, structure, and responsibility. The third borrows from Taurus, fixed earth, which adds patience, pleasure, and staying power.
That shift in modality changes your speed. Cardinal means "start the thing, now." Fixed means "stay with this thing until it's finished." So your base Virgo mutability, the quick adaptation, gets pushed toward building systems at 10 degrees and pulled toward slow, sensory craft at 20.
Early Virgo: 0 to 9 degrees, the eye at its sharpest

This is Virgo concentrated. Discernment, quick practical help, and fixes that arrive before anyone has asked for them. You find the reason the printer keeps jamming, the missing step in the instructions, the phone setting draining everyone's battery, usually within minutes. Your help is specific: the exact link, the exact fix, delivered without fuss or a speech about your process.
Picture the friend whose new shop website you just looked at. You don't need a brief. You need thirty seconds and a cursor. The broken link, the checkout page that loops, the shipping policy she forgot to post, all found before she finishes her coffee. You're the troubleshooter people walk over to rather than email, trusted with anything that has to work by this afternoon.
In love, you quietly test for reliability. You don't announce the test. You just notice whether someone follows through, and once they do, you relax completely. Dry, quick, endlessly adaptable when plans change, because adjusting is what mutable earth does best.
The growing edge: the fix nobody asked for. You can't see a wobbly table without folding a napkin under the leg, and not everyone hears help the way you mean it. At 0 degrees especially, you're newly arrived in this earth and still figuring out how much help is too much. Asking "want a hand with that, or just an ear?" saves you a lot of friction.
Middle Virgo: 10 to 19 degrees, from proofreader to boss
The Capricorn accent lifts your eye a level. You don't just find the typo; you see the whole process that produced it. You proofread the quarterly report, then rewrite the workflow that generated the errors, then get asked to run the team that writes it. Before long, people are asking you to run the process, not just check it.
Of the three decans, this is where you're most at home with a title, direct reports, and a clear goal with a timeline attached. Your out-of-office message lists who to contact for what, what each of them already knows, and when you'll be checking in anyway. With friends, you're the one who books the trip and has already read the cancellation policy twice.
In love, you want someone serious about building a life together. Not a grand gesture. A shared five-year plan, maybe, and someone who shows up on time.
The growing edge: overwork. The more competent you are, the more gets put on your plate, and you rarely say no because you can already see exactly how to do it. Your calendar has a color for every project you own, and last month you ran out of colors. You're not lazy for wanting a day off. You just kept saying yes to the thing you could do in forty minutes, and forty minutes became forty projects.
Late Virgo: 20 to 29 degrees, the Taurus accent and the long craft
Here you exhale. You still notice everything; the discernment hasn't faded one bit. But now you're willing to enjoy what you notice: the texture of good linen, a garden after rain, a long meal with no agenda. Your standards pour into slow, physical work. Refinishing furniture, sewing your own clothes, binding notebooks by hand. You're happy to spend a month on a single walnut side table, and you're in no hurry.
You're the calmest of the three decans. Less rattled by small things. More settled once you've decided how something should be done. Your roommate shows you her way of repotting a plant, and you manage to watch the whole thing without reaching for the trowel. You manage. Barely. You have opinions. In love, you're affectionate in quiet, physical ways and deeply, quietly constant. You don't need to talk it through every night. You show up, you make dinner, you remember what they like on their toast.
The growing edge: stubbornness. Your way of doing a task is the right way. Trying another method can take you a very long time, and you will not pretend otherwise. Your friends have stopped asking when the dresser you're refinishing will be done and started asking whether they can commission the next one.
At 29 degrees, you're an expert editor who has seen every possible mistake and wants the job wrapped up correctly, now. You've been doing this so long you can smell a structural flaw from across the room, and you are out of patience for people who won't let you close the file.
Three Virgos on vacation
The first decan finds the error in the hotel booking before everyone's even parked the rental car, and has it fixed by the time the bags reach the lobby. The Capricorn-accented decan has a color-coded itinerary for all seven days and is checking work email from the beach. The Taurus-accented decan finds one perfect café on the first morning and goes back every single day, same table, same order, no variation, no regrets.

If your Mercury, Venus, or Moon also sits in Virgo, check its degree too. Your Sun at 5 degrees makes you the fast fixer at work, but a Moon at 24 degrees means that at home you want nothing to do with anything except sanding a piece of wood and going with the grain. One eye, working through different hands. Open your app, find the numbers, and see which Virgo is pulling you where.
